5R1C Model Based off ISO 13790

So far we have been working with 1R1C models. A 5R1C expands on this by having three thermal nodes

  • Thermal node of the indoor air
  • Thermal node of the indoor surface
  • Thermal node of the indoor thermal mass

Between the nodes are two thermal conductances NOTE: Theses conductances are the inverse of the resistance. It is just another way of representing the thermal system.

  • There is a single thermal capacitance of the thermal mass

The envelope conductances are

  • Window Conductance
  • Wall Conductance
  • Ventilation Conductance

The Wall and Window conductance leads to the outdoor air while the ventilation goes to a supply temperature . Note that for simplicity we often set the supply temperature as the outdoor air temperature.

The heat gains are distributed to the Air, Surface, and Mass node by a set of equations
